Find the loss.
Before it becomes a crisis.

Indian utilities lose 30–50% of total production to NRW. Most losses remain invisible across thousands of connections.

Cognecto segments your network into District Metered Areas (DMAs), comparing inlet flows against the sum of consumer readings in real time. Threshold divergences—leaks, bursts, or illegal taps—trigger instant alerts with precise locations, stopping massive losses before they escalate.

DMA-level water balance — inlet vs metered consumption per zone, continuously
Minimum Night Flow analysis — smallest flow at 2–4 AM isolates background leakage
Pressure zone monitoring — pressure drop signatures identify pipe failure points
Tamper alerts — reverse flow, magnetic interference, meter removal detected instantly
Burst pipe detection — sudden flow spike triggers field dispatch within minutes

"Non-revenue water was our single biggest operational cost. We knew water was being lost — we did not know where, how much, or who was responsible. Cortex built the knowledge graph of our network: every sensor reading, every consumption anomaly, every billing discrepancy linked to the pipe segment and district it came from. NRW fell 34% in the first six months. Billing accuracy improved by 28%. Both outcomes from the same data, structured correctly for the first time."

Why Cognecto

Why utilities choose Cognecto
for smart water.

Not a meter supplier. Not a SCADA integrator. An end-to-end water intelligence platform — from the meter in the ground to the bill on the consumer's phone — with one partner responsible for every layer.

01 / End-to-End Single Partner

Meters → IoT → MDM → Billing → Consumer App — one vendor.

Most utilities cobble together a meter supplier, a connectivity provider, a software vendor, and a billing system — and spend years resolving data gaps between them. Cognecto supplies and integrates all five layers. One contract, one SLA, one escalation path. The accountability that fragmented procurement cannot provide.

02 / Multi-Brand Integration

Your existing meter estate keeps working. Cognecto adds intelligence.

Rip-and-replace is not a precondition. Boson's IoT layer integrates with Itron, Honeywell, Sensus, Kamstrup, and generic pulse-output meters through RS-485, M-Bus, DLMS, and API adapters. New Cognecto AMR meters and legacy units share one MDM, one billing engine, and one NRW analytics layer — protecting the utility's existing infrastructure investment.

03 / Proven NRW Outcomes

34% NRW reduction at WATCO Odisha. ₹52L avoided at Jal Jeevan.

These are not projections — they are documented outcomes from live deployments. The NRW reduction at WATCO Odisha and the burst pipe early warning at Ayodhya both came from the same underlying capability: real-time water balance analytics that identifies loss points before they compound. That capability is live from day one of deployment.

04 / Government Programme Ready

Jal Jeevan Mission · Smart Cities · AMRUT — native compliance.

Cognecto's smart metering solution is designed for the Indian government programme environment — FCRI-certified meters for statutory metrological compliance, LoRaWAN network architecture for Jal Jeevan and AMRUT smart city deployments, and billing software compatible with urban local body accounting systems. Programme-ready from procurement to commissioning.

Request a demo
What LoRaWAN network infrastructure is required to deploy?+
Cognecto can deploy on your existing LoRaWAN network (if one is already in place under Jal Jeevan or Smart City programme) or install LoRa gateways as part of the project scope. A single gateway covers 2–5 km radius in urban environments and up to 15 km in open rural areas. For areas without LoRa coverage, NB-IoT SIM or eSIM-enabled meters provide an alternative without gateway infrastructure. Network assessment and technology selection is part of our Site Survey & Design phase.
Can Cognecto meters work alongside our existing meter estate without replacing it?+
Yes. Boson integrates with existing meters through pulse output adapters (for mechanical meters), RS-485/Modbus bridges, M-Bus concentrators, and direct API connections. New Cognecto AMR meters and legacy units are managed in the same MDM, the same billing engine, and the same NRW analytics platform. A utility can start with AMR deployment in high-NRW zones and expand progressively — without running parallel systems.
How are billing slabs configured for domestic, commercial, and BPL consumers?+
The billing module has a fully configurable tariff engine. Slab structures are defined by consumer category (domestic, commercial, industrial, BPL/subsidised, government), consumption band, and season. Multiple tariff schedules can run simultaneously — for example, a subsidised flat rate for BPL consumers and progressive slabs for commercial connections. Changes to tariff structures take effect from the next billing cycle without any code changes. All tariff configurations are audit-logged with the effective date.
How does the NRW system identify where losses are occurring?+
The network is divided into District Metered Areas (DMAs). Each DMA has an inlet bulk meter and a set of consumer meters. Cortex continuously calculates the water balance — inlet volume minus the sum of consumer meter readings. The difference is apparent NRW for that zone. Minimum Night Flow analysis (measuring the smallest flow between 2–4 AM when legitimate demand is lowest) isolates background leakage from commercial losses. Pressure anomaly signatures help identify burst locations. The result is a geographic NRW map ranked by loss severity — field teams go to the worst zones first.
Does the solution integrate with SAP for financial and billing reconciliation?+
Yes. The billing module integrates with SAP IS-U (Industry Solution Utilities) and SAP FI (Financial Accounting) bidirectionally. Billing records, collection data, and arrears are pushed to SAP in real time or via scheduled batch transfer — whichever the organisation's IT standards require. For utilities without SAP, Cognecto's native billing and revenue management module handles the full workflow independently. Oracle Utilities and custom ERP systems are also supported via REST API.
What certifications do the meters carry for government procurement compliance?+
Cognecto's ultrasonic AMR meters carry ISO 4064:2014 (international water meter standard), MID (Measuring Instruments Directive — European conformity), FCRI certification (Flow Control Research Institute — India's national flow meter certification required for government procurement), IP68 (fully submersible), Class 2 metrological accuracy, and E1 EMC grade. These certifications satisfy all drinking water supply and municipal department procurement requirements including Jal Jeevan Mission, AMRUT, and Smart City programme specifications.
